This project was the last garden I designed in London before moving to Yorkshire where my main focus is and it remains one of my favourites because the lovely clients were happy to explore turning the lawn into a wildflower meadow. It was a collaboration with DKM Jamm architects and VEVES interior architecture. Overall the garden is a mix of British meadow in the centre, blurring into North American prairie on the perimeter for some structure and supplementary biodiversity. Originally the garden was planned to be much larger, but when this wasn’t possible, the ideas were condensed down into what we see today. Introducing a wildflower meadow back into a city felt good to all of us and it makes a stunning showpiece in summer. The colour palette is restricted for elegance to match the home, and the walls painted anthracite to accentuate the planting. These photos by Nigel Dakin are from the first year, over time the plants will fill out to cover the soil.
